This is the jump off point for my various web pages that concentrate mostly on my
favorite activities, biking, sailing, traveling, and some other miscellaneous interests.
This page chronicles the cross country bike ride I took during the spring/summer
of 1997. I crossed the country using a modified Adventure Cycling northern tier
route from Seattle, WA to Provincetown, Cape Cod Massachusetts. The trip was fully
loaded and took 6 1/2 weeks.
The 1999 Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa XXVII. This ride was
accomplished during the last week of July 1999 and included my sister, brother, their
spouses, and a much larger group of people comprising team Mass Hysteria. It
was a blistering hot and long ride this year running a total distance of 530 miles. We
did have fun overall, but at times the ride was quite demanding!
An organized tour of the western half of the Nova Scotian northern and southern coastlines.
It included many of the same "Team Blue Bunny" people that took part in the previous
year's RAGBRAI ride described above. Six days of very lovely high north coastline...and
some lighthouses too!
A day of sailing aboard a Catalina 30 foot sloop around the Elizabeth Islands off the coast
of Massachusetts. A bonus experience was the passage of several tallships, most notably
the Russian Kreuzenstern, on their way to Sail Boston 2000!
The voyage of my sailboat "Nonotuck", a 1974 20 foot O'Day sloop down the Hudson River
from Albany to New York City, then up the East River and into and across Long
Island Sound to Wickford, RI in Narragansett Bay. The trip took 7 days and covered about
300 miles.
In May of 1948, a USAF C-54 cargo aircraft on a training flight out of nearby
Westover AFB, crashed in a Northampton field killing all aboard. A memorial has
recently (1999) been erected to the memory of the men who died; active participants
of the then on-going Berlin Airlift.
Pictures and some description of a very entertaining visit to Old Rhinebeck
Aerodrome in Rhinebeck, NY. The countryside was beautiful and the WWI and
other early aircraft in static display and in the air were superb!
I custom installed rectangular fog lights on my beloved Dodge Ram pickup truck in
place of the OEM round type. The rectangular shape belongs on the Ram, and
the lights have a long history!
A 30 foot Catalina sloop built in 1980. She sails from Fairhaven, in Buzzard's
Bay, Massachusetts and cruises the Elizabeth Islands, Martha's Vineyard and
surrounding locations.
